Friday Fictioneers

Friday Fictioneers, unite once more! With our fearless leader, Rochelle, and a photo prompt from Claire Fuller, we once more stretch our wings. Check out all the other stories here.

Noise, noise, noise! He couldn’t take the noise anymore. The screeching machinery inserted itself in his head, and wouldn’t leave, even when he went home. Every day he went to work, working in the steam and the heat, only to go home to fall into bed to get up to do it again.

Every day he worked for the Party. He had no life of his own. No one had a life of their own. But soon, soon they would. They would never know who he was, but they would thank him for generations. He carefully placed the last wire.

  5. Dear Samantha,

Wouldn’t it have been easier for him to just walk away? But then the story wouldn’t have been as interesting. Nicely done.

    • Oh my, really? They need to go to Rochelle’s instructions, where she says to write about what the picture makes you think of, not necessarily what you see. Sometimes I think I take the prompt too literally!
