Another wonderful prompt from Priceless Joy. I went short this week, at only 99 words. Check out all the other stories, short and long, here.

Teresa looked out into the abyss. The churning water flew  over the rocks and down over the falls. The pool beneath seemed so serene. Would she be as serene if she went over the falls? Could she fly with the water? Would Edgar finally notice her, if she wasn’t there?

The falls sparkled in the sunlight, as if lit by mini diamonds from within. Stretching out a hand, Teresa leaned over the railing. Could she catch a diamond as it went by?

“Hey! Teresa! Get a move on!”

Shaking off her vertigo, Teresa ran to catch up with her friends.

  1. Whew! That was close. For a minute there I thought she was going to jump. Great story! I like the sentences about, “catching diamonds” and “shaking off her vertigo.”

  2. I don’t think Teresa was seriously contemplating suicide, just imagining what it would be like to tumble down like the waterfall. I imagine vertigo might put such thoughts into people’s heads. Lovely description: ‘The falls sparkled in the sunlight, as if lit by mini diamonds from within’. I agree with you about the great prompt. 🙂
