Once again it is time to follow Priceless Joy into the flash fiction spere.  Check out all the other adventurers  here. If you want to give it a go yourself, Priceless Joy gives us the photo prompt each week and we do our best with 150 words, more or less. 173 for me today.

Adventures in Wine Country

“I have a new adventure for us,” Murray said.

Mary groaned. Fjords in Norway, with horses no less. Massive storms in Alaska. Now what?

“Ok, I’ll bite,” she said. “What would you like to do this time? Climb a mountain? We haven’t tried that yet.”

Murray looked startled. “Would you do that? They have these cool walking trips in Tibet!”

Mary shook her head. “Never mind,” she said, “what do you have planned?”

Murray shook his head back at her. “Nay-uh, it’s a surprise. I just need you to pack. Light stuff, should be warm.”

“Great,” she muttered, “he’s taking me to the Sahara.”

Murray’s laughter followed her into the bedroom.

Two hours later they were on the road. Mary watched the road signs curiously as they headed northwest. The roads became winding and the towns sparser as they traveled. She felt slightly reassured, she didn’t think there were any adventures that she couldn’t handle on the California coast.

When Mary saw the first sign for the winery, she laughed happily. It was her favorite brand.

  1. Wonderful story Samantha! I loved the ending!

  2. An enjoyable read, Samatha. I like the way the story plays out as Mary considers the different holidays they’ve already had. I’m glad this one turned out to be somewhere she liked.

  3. phew! what a relief! 🙂
